For Alpha AHA Chemical Peels

Building tolerance is an essential part and is the safest way to introduce your skin to the acidic nature of the peel solution. This is vital if you have never used skin peels before or are new to Alpha skin peels.

It is important to start with a low percentage of peel because it allows your skin to adjust to the treatment gradually, without causing irritation or adverse reactions.

Both glycolic and lactic acid is a powerful exfoliant that can penetrate deeply into the skin, and starting at a high percentage can cause significant skin damage, such as chemical burns, scarring, and hyperpigmentation.

Men typically have more sensitive skin due to several factors which is why it is vitally important to build tolerance. Factors include:

  1. Hair Density: Men usually have thicker and denser facial hair compared to women. Shaving can cause irritation and inflammation on the skin as the hair grows back, leading to sensitivity.

  2. Hair Coarseness: Beard hair is typically thicker and coarser than the hair on other parts of the body, leading to potential irritation when shaving.

  3. Hormonal Differences: Testosterone levels in men can affect the skin's oil production, making it more prone to irritation and sensitivity.

  4. Skin Thickness: Men generally have thicker skin than women, but the skin on the face can still be sensitive due to constant shaving and exposure to external factors.

By starting with a low percentage, your skin can build tolerance and gradually adjust to the treatment, allowing for more profound effects in the long run. Additionally, a low percentage of peel solution is suitable for various skin types and is less likely to cause adverse reactions.

Starting on a low percentage teaches you and allows you to monitor your skin care treatment which will enable you to make the best judgement when it comes to your skin care routine.

TREATMENT PLAN

Our treatment plan consists of building your skin’s tolerance over a period of 12 weeks. This will allow you to safely adjust your skin to the acidic pH and avoid any unnecessary side effects.

  • Begin with the 10% strength peel and use it twice a week for two weeks to allow your skin to adjust.

    During this period you may not feel any effect depending on your skin condition/type and age, however do not worry it is working.

  • Cease using the 10% solution and you can begin using the 15% strength peel and use it once a week for two weeks.

  • On the 5th week you cease using the 15% and you can begin with the 20% strength peel for a full six weeks.

    This is your official first full treatment at a higher solution.

  • You have officially completed the tolerance treatment plan and your skin should be well adjusted to the acidic nature of the peel solution.

    You can now assess whether your treatment at 20% is enough or decide if you need to further increase strengths in order to gain further improved results.
